HIKING: Brooker Creek Preserve/ Blackwater Cutoff Loop

Description

This is a very large preserve in Pinellas County which also features a really nice environmental and education center. It encompasses 8,700 square acres of land. There are several hiking and equestrian trails. The Blackwater Cutoff Loop Trail is 2.8 miles long and consists of both dry pine flatwoods and wet forested wetlands. The northern portion of the trail crosses one of the 13 channels of Brooker Creek. This area may be underwater during the summer months.

Directions

From South Tampa: <br /><br /><br /><br />Follow the Courtney Campbell Causeway (SR 60) west and turn north (right) onto McMullen Booth Road (CR 611). The name of this road changes to East Lake Road north of Tampa Road (CR 752). Continue north to Keystone Road (CR 582) and turn east (right). Travel approximately 2.5 miles to the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center entrance. Follow the one-mile drive to the parking area.<br /><br /><br /><br />From north Tampa: <br /><br /><br /><br />From N Dale Mabry Hwy (SR 597), turn west (left) onto Van Dyke Road (CR 685A) and travel to Gunn Hwy (CR 587). Turn north (right) and continue 1.4 miles to Tarpon Springs Road (CR 582). Turn west (left) and travel approximately 5.1 miles to the Brooker Creek Environmental Education Center entrance. Follow the one-mile drive to the parking area.<br /><br /><br /><br />From Pinellas County: <br /><br /><br /><br />Go north on US 19 to Tarpon Avenue E. (CR 582), turn east (right). Pass through the traffic signal at East Lake Road (CR 611) and continue for approximately 2.5 miles to the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center entrance. Follow the one-mile drive to the center.
